people still use samples man
the south took over because its the biggest region in the country
but now since other regions have adopted their drum patterns, there is no regional sound

who's the biggest ATL rapper now, "future?"

Poor excuse:smh:

And I'm pretty sure that's DJ premier who's saying this. He sounds like he's hating when he said there's no natural warmth under synth keyboards b/c atleast these new producers are creating their own melodies.

All the did was chop up some samples, changed the tone, added some baselines and a simple drum pattern.
Dont get me wrong I still think he's one of the GOAT's but he just comes off as a hater.

His album sold million+, buying a couple hundred album here and there to pass out not going to make a fukking difference

and I bet a good bulk of those million plus sales came courtesy of the label.

No limit sampled so much shyt
those quotes were written by someone who doesn't actually listen to the music.
yea.
you would think that the kid would've fell back, but instead, the young bul is still those silly quotes.

That sounds retarted....Northern California suddenly forgot how to use a 808:aicmon:? The south just had a boom of talent that is mindblowing....New Orleans birthed a lot of greatness,Texas as well,FL, and of course ATL.....u gotta take ya hat off.

Don't put that weak azz excuse on Cali, like we was at the mercy of samples:childplease:....as if that mobb music from the 80's don't sound like trap music now, samples not neccesary...Cali can make that shyt for the trunk all day:obama:....there's just no young nikkas with skill and star power to really do them justice and blow up on em....u gotta give it to the south and say they've had that on lock or about a decade

Spoken like someone that never listened to rap music to the degree that his word could be a reliable authority of the subject. The south sampled heavy and provided a bluesy/soulful sound not even counting the regional sounds of places like N.O., Mia, H-town, Memphis, the Bay used 808s like shyt, etc.

The only redeeming point is that the explosion of these cheap sample free beats has brought down the quality of the music tenfold.

You can make the point that OP is making w/o discrediting the entirety of the south though. The South definitely held its own with Outkast, UGK, Scarface, 3 6 Mafia etc.... but the fact remains what really put the south on top was cheap sounding synth lines and catchy, elementary lyrics. Cause thats what worked in the mainstream

You absolutely can, but the fact that the entire region and all it's contributions were basically discredited as if there was no Hip Hop culture prior to Lil Jon either means the person saying this either wasn't responsible enough to provide commentary of more scope, doesn't have the knowledge to do so, or is too biased.

Has it ever been confirmed that a label bought hundreds of thousands of copies of its artists album? If so, how was it done?

I don't know any numbers but I know sales-boosting has been a regular practice for the longest.

How do you know? And I'm more interested in how it works? Does the label send people to retail stores to purchase albums? Are copies set aside and purchased at cost? If its that way, does the RIAA count that?

Most importantly, how does the label benefit financially?

I thought it was pretty much common knowledge at this point.

how does the label benefit? the same way they benefit from payola.
