And I'm pretty sure that's DJ premier who's saying this. He sounds like he's hating when he said there's no natural warmth under synth keyboards b/c atleast these new producers are creating their own melodies.

All the did was chop up some samples, changed the tone, added some baselines and a simple drum pattern.
Dont get me wrong I still think he's one of the GOAT's but he just comes off as a hater.

your not getting what he's saying...

using stock sounds without freaking it..

or having live instrumentation over it...

most beatmakers and producers know lil about sound design....

this is somewhat true. But I wouldn't say its necessarily a south thing.
When labels and companies started to really crack down on sampling. the game changed. and that is a fact.
All of a sudden all these dudes were making these weak keyboard beats.
All these fruity loop producers started blowing up off of wack simple ass beats. and if rappers were using them regardless cuz that was better than the alternative of trying to clear a sample or get hit with all the publishin losses.

Dudes still sample now but those tracks are mostly mixtape tracks.


Now, I ain't gonna say that all these keyboard beats are wack, cuz thats a lie. there are tons of hot beats out there BUT there are even more shytty ones.

And dudes can stop with the whole "well at least I make original beats" shyt. cuz playing three notes on a keyboard for 3 minutes is NOT creating something musical.

And as much as ppl wanna say that sampling may have been easy. Its definitley alot harder than what people give it credit for. unless of course you go to the Kanye West school of sampling.
