Not shocked by McDonald's.
The breakfast sandwiches are pretty good for fast food but the lunch/dinner options are lacking. The burger market is saturated but the chicken sandwich market has room to grow.
Popeye's has definitely started something. Chick Fil A isn't sweating them, but people do have another big chain option now. McDonald's probably thinks "if those Popeye's muthafukkas can make a sandwich, we can too."
Problem is that McDonald's is cheap. They will need to have decent quality chicken that actually "sorta" looks like chicken. They want to siphon off Popeye's and Chick Fil A customers but will probably try to shortcut with pink slime meat and then over engineering the taste.
