To MY understanding its like this...

An upwards triangle is Male, Positive, Male Genitalia. Downwards is Female, Negative, Female Genitals. The upwards also represents God and conversely, downwards is "the devil" or satan.

Now...there is a difference between placing them on top of each other and interlocking them. For example, interlocking can mean a union between male and female. Placing an upwards triangle over a downwards could mean placing god over evil.
