The record-breaking 2020 Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on Nov. 30. It had a record 30 named storms—from Arthur to Iota—and was the record fifth consecutive above-normal season.

Thirteen storms hit the U.S. coastline; five of which came ashore in Louisiana. This satellite animation is from NOAA's GOES-16 (GOES East) satellite and runs from May 13 through November 18, 2020.

The GOES East satellite recorded this imagery of the entire Atlantic basin from its operational location of 75.2 degrees west longitude. This allows us to show storms as they form off the coast of Africa and then enter the Atlantic.
