I have little understanding, but I believe Ibn Saud worked with the US and allowed them to exploit oil reserves and set up policy that has had implications for the instability of the region ever since.

Yes, some of our allies (or at least private donors in allied countries) are funding ISIS, but Iran and the US may actually work together to help fix this problem. This isn't likely to result in a war with Iran. Iran may actually be an ally here (we'll see what Israel has to say about that though...)
