It's an awful idea to combine money, because once you do so , either party can spend without the other knowing, until after it's done.

We can agree to disagree about combining money. I’m not saying the couple shouldn’t have individual accounts like for their own personal spending, but I think the majority of the money should be in one account. Make financial decisions together and pay from the combined. I don’t see one reason why someone wouldn’t consult with their spouse before taking a large sum of money out the joint account.

There is a saying that "a fool and his money are soon departed". It's 100% true if you're combining accounts. There is no need for it, and if it's a joint account that either party has access to, what sense does it make to "consult" the other person? Keep it separate and there is no issue.....ever.

I'd like to hear one logical reason to join money into the same account vs keeping it separate and just share the needed expenses.
