Listening to Urban Legend,Urban Legend era T.I was one of the best we've ever seen as a emcee period
Just think about what this nikka did for a second,gave himself the title of "King Of The South" which was never really a thing
.
Then my nikka made up the rules to what would make one King Of The South, that all worked in his favor
-You had to be lyrical(since when is that a requirement to be loved in the south T.I
?)
-Had to be a man who is about his business and money,but a man who is also willing to say "fukk money and business:pacspit" if he needs to take a life or throw his away as a matter of principle
-Of course the ho's gotta want you
-Had to really have a resume in these streets and be loved by the streets(Luda
)
-Had to be humble to the people,yet still arrogant enough to explain why your better than everybody else so these people don't start thinking they the king
-Had to sell records but not be too commercialized.
-Had to be a cool nikka since kindergarten,not just once you became a rapper
-Had to be intelligent but able to be ignorant if you force the kings hand(Floyd
)
How do you proclaim yourself a king to nikkas that's not even looking for a king? Make up reasons why your the king,manage to offend people by calling yourself the king? Then make nikkas take a step back,listen to all the reasons you give as to why you are the king
...Which at that point they realize "He's right,he's everything you would want a king to be,he's the king yall
"
Nobody was able to talk down on his peers like prime T.I did,only Jay-Z is in the discussion and its close.....Even if they was more successful T.I had a way of making his peers sound so beneath him
Plus he was the first southern nikka outsiders couldn't write off as some slow country nikka....his swag and style as an emcee made it impossible to front on no matter where you was from....T.I would come off as cool nikka in any timezone,rapping next to anybody from anywhere.
Much like Jay-z I don't know if time just humbled him,or if it was the charges,the shooting or something else...It hurt to see the king sound more and more like his peers and the average citizen over the years
his last verse
"just know I'm raising the bar and I'm keepin it there."
T.I set the standard so high I don't see another nikka from the south reaching it.
