this album could have been great. But literally every song on here has somebody else handling the hook

Makes it feel lazy or cheap or like he didnt believe in his hook abilities anymore. The only hook he did himself has somebody else featured in the chorus with him still. and the only song that doesn't have somebody else in the chorus is cuz it doesnt have a chorus

honestly, Face should have sang most these same hooks himself. He got the ability to make it work in ways that these light-in-the-voice hired singers were simply not able to. It woulda felt bluesier and humbler and deeply rooted as the title says. Instead it feels lightweight and plastic. Plus it would had felt like further growth/evolution from him if he had leaned into that a lil harder.

And all the actual real singing ones should have been sung by somebody like Anthony Hamilton or Devin or Rotha Vandross. Or maybe some real authentic Blues artists, that could have been tight. but not these light bright ass voices.

like imagine if that was Z-Ro's voice handling the hook on 'Steer' instead?!!??!!! :ohlawd:
that would probably take that track to an all time personal classic for me. instead I barely listen to it at all. Same with the rest of this whole album, which really could have been very good. The beats & raps are all the makings of a great album. but these hooks ruin it
