I don't understand this "Black people made it, everybody else leave it alone" mentality.
Even right now in this thread there's a bunch of people saying black people created this, then white people hijacked it.
And yeah, it IS true.
But nobody tells black america as a whole to stop pulling in influences from other cultures and evolving their shyt just because a white person decided to take interest in it.
Hell yeah Chuck Berry started the rock and roll shyt. Who decided to tell black america to stop just because Elvis blew up?
Hell yeah Robert Johnson and Son House made The Blues what it is. Sorry Scarface, Eric Clapton ain't more known for The Blues than B.B. King's diva tendencies having ass. Hell yeah Jimi Hendrix is damn near universally lauded as the GREATEST person to ever pick up an electric six string. What kind of influence does he have on black culture except for black people being proud that he was black? Who's gonna pick up a Stratocaster, hold up upside down and go at it with no lessons? What about jazz? What culture REALLY has more history and input on the direction of Jazz than Black America? Even to this VERY DAY. You think because they dumped heroin all over the Harlem Renaissance that it died out? No? Then why nikkas wanna call Branford Marsalis music Kenny G? THEY DONT EVEN PLAY THE SAME INSTRUMENT.
And 6-8 times out of 10, even if some black person DOES show interest in something other than "black folks stuff", 1. They wouldn't be caught DEAD listening to it in front of others. 2. If they're doing it, the greater majority of black people wont support it!
unless it's being sampled. And nikkas won't even track samples!
Meanwhile, look around at OTHER cultures! Everybody's stealing, mixing, evolving off of everybody else's shyt.... Them cats in The East is killing it!
And what are we as a culture doing? DEvolving! What do we really take interest in now? Sports, comedians, asses, bullshyt "I Hit It First" R&B, dumbed down rap music. formulaic Gospel Music? Christianity!?
Hell, we've gotten ourselves to the point where even our watered down rap music is broken into sections. East cant sound a certain way, South cant sound a certain way, West cant sound a certain way.... nikkas get mad! But nikkas that DONT sound like they're from a region blow up! Why?

Blacks will always be the dominant force in hip-hop, no matter how many white or pop rappers come out of the woodwork.
Reverse it, white people have had a pretty tight stranglehold on the rock genre for quite some time now but they don't get worried every time some black guy starts playing a little Led Zeppelin.

It's what happens when people define themselves by a certain culture and they feel others invading or changing that culture. For many they don't have a "culture" outside of Hip Hop so they take it personally. I guess I could relate more if it wasn't just music to me

At the end of the day, this is a business about making money and as long as white people in the suburbs by the vast majority of the music, hip hop will be marketed towards them.
