He comes off as a family man, and I've come across threads where he did give logical good sounding advice regarding family life. He does not come off as the type to abandon his family. I think he is saying that if he trusted a woman with her birth control (depo, pill) and she purposely chose not to after hearing him say that he does not want kids he would not be in the child's life but pay for the child's necessities.
