lol you make it seem like its so easy.
No but you make your own path, which usually isnt easy to start with. Back then you'd hope someone would grab on, and push you to the top. Now? You put in all the work; mixtapes, collabs, social media, etc. And then the labels come in, and just end up taking your cut once you sign. I think that's what he's realizing- you answer to someone, who ends up charging you for what you were already doing. Im not even a fan of his like that. But, its just stupid in today's world to sign a contract in Hip Hop once you have your fan base.

Jimmy is the ONLY reason any of them tde clowns are eating
nobody is buying ur bullshyt...kendrick sold 120 K indepedently before signing to interscope and 90% of the interscope artists aren't even critically acclaimed, Eminem himself doesn't have a single critically acclaimed album

i SAID IT THE WAY I DID CAUSE I FELT kdot did nothing special at all for his acclaim. It was all the work of jimmy and his minions.

He had one of the most acclaimed indie & underground albums in 2011, and it was before signing to interscope.
Also, Q & TDE admitted that Interscope undershipped gkmc during the first weeks...they only started to promote him when the the album went gold (only 2 interscope rappers went gold from 2009 to 2014: eminem & kendrick)

Don't know what kinda deal TDE has, but judging from Interscopes reputation, Interscope's gonna expect them to put numbers on the board, and honestly Kendrick is the only one I see with star power there. The whole TDE vibe I was getting was authentic, quality music ... Not to be cynical but once them suits involved I don't expect them to be able to keep it 100 like before.

I agree 100%

When you already have a fan base there is no need to sign to a major label, that shyt more likely to land you in debt

You gotta ask for permission to drop albums, give up most if not all creative control, only to see a small percentage of the money you generate

And on top of that there's a good chance u gotta part with a percentage of any money you make outside of album sales

I mean it's better than being broke but if an artist already has a fan base willing to support, a record deal can cause them more harm than good

That extra exposure in a day and age where artists are lucky to go gold is not worth the long term debt

The hardest part about music is getting it out there and building a name for yourself

A record deal can definitely help with that but if you already got that, you are doing the label more of a favor than they're doing you especially if you goin 360

LMAO I'M SURE YOU SEEN THE VID WHERE I BELIEVE IT WAS SCHOOL BOY Q WHOM SAID THEY SIGNED IN 2011. Which means their 2011 buzz was financed. Brilliant marketing plan By slick Jimmy I. Make fans think they're getting behind new fresh independent artist, meanwhile they have people all across various markets getting paid From bloggers to internet trolls. AND i never heard anyone bumpin GKMC which means albums were being bought to help nerds feel they had to see his wack ass shows so massa jimmy can get his 360 kickback, hence school boy's whining lol.

not really, i have no clue what #'s interscope wants him to hit, but if I'm to be honest, I don't know that this album has legs to reach gold. If he gets dropped, he already has an out with the whole "being indie is the way to go, it's where I want to be" shtick
still kinda weak though.

unfortunately Q ain't talented enough to be successful in the mainstream, the only artist I could see doing that was kendrick, kdot doesn't really need to release hit singles, all he has to do is making other quality albums and fans will buy them
