we've seen this scenario play out already with 50 and G Unit..... people swore up and down that Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks would sell like crazy, just because of their association with 50.

Horrible example breh. Banks went double Plat, Buck went Plat, Game went double Plat and Yayo went Gold, all of the strength of 50 and G Unit.

I can understand what you're saying, but I think Q genuinely has his own fans outside of Kendricks alongside the bandwagon TDE fans as well. The real truth will come once Q's on his second album and we see how many of his fans / TDE fans remain.

The whole "nobody has heard his single outside the internet" shyt needs to be toss to the bushes. EVERYBODY has the internet! This ain't 1995 and only a small portion of people have AOL. People need to stop making that crazy assumption.

for real, that notion is so dumb :heh:

Breh, read what you're saying.... it doesn't make any sense.

All 5 of Ross albums are Gold...being ONLY a gold artist in this climate, is not really something to knock somebody for.

Just cause you're a TDE fan, doesn't mean you're a Schoolboy Q fan....and the majority of TDE fans are nothing more than Kendrick fans, who like Ab Soul and Q too

Schoolboy Q has yet to carve his own fanbase out of the TDE umbrella.... Just like the majority of the TDE fanbase doesn't fukk with Jay Rock at all.

Wrong, Q shares a fanbase with ASAP Rocky..In fact, I think ASAP did more to help Q get his exposer to really kick off shyt for himself than TDE did :ld:

You know how Wale and Meek Mill was able to establish their own fanbase in the 1st place? It's due to this little compilation MMG vol 1 compilation album. Why Wale couldn't sale dogshyt prior to signing with MMG? Rick Ross smartly made it a family affair and not just mere individual you out on your own type shyt.

As for Tyga, he failed to establish a FANBASE. I keep repeating this, it's all about having a LOYAL fanbase. You cannot merely sign onto a hot label and boom you going to sell! Wayne got his loyal fanbase due to being one of the HARDEST WORKING emcees of the last decade. Drake and Nicki did it through a hard UNDERGROUND grind even before they got mainstream. The reason why they are large as they are is due to their unflinching and growing fanbase. Tyga failed to do that for himself.

You cannot use the YMCMB example, because hardly anyone really know who the rest of those part of YMCMB outside of Wayne, Drake, and Nicki and all of them three are large due to a FANBASE. they worked hard to establish well before that.

You have to understand that. With TDE, from day ONE been a FAMILY AFFAIR to which Black Hippy was it's own group. They did everything TOGETHER and built their own fanbase together. It's like saying during the height of Death Row, that if Snoop is going go platinum, there's no way Tha Dogg Pound isn't going to sell big, in spite all one goes hand & hand with the other.

Schoolboy Q has his OWN loyal fanbase. This been established through the success that TDE as a collective has gained. Again, you explain why Top Dawg himself is expecting 240K for Schoolboy Q? That's HIS own personal reach. He wouldn't of tweeted it if those numbers are unreachable in his eyes.

you're just making shyt up as you go breh :heh:

now i can't use YMCMB as an example, despite it being another example of what i'm talking about. Hottest rapper out, with his own stable of rappers.

and your Dogg Pound analogy fails, cause Dogg Food didn't sell like the The Chronic and Doggystyle.... go look that shyt up.

Top Dawg thinks Schoolboy is gonna do 240k ? :heh:

are you from America breh?, do you realize that's what Kendrick sold for GKMC, with a full year of promo and push?

Who ever said Schoolboy Q is going to make AS MUCH as Kendrick? And 2nd, that was HIS tweet, it's his expectation he wants.

1. it's the perfect example.

2.Banks never went double platinum, and Tony Yayo didn't go gold... don't believe me, look yourself.

Hunger for more is only certified platinum, Rotten Apple didn't even go gold... and Tony Yayo didn't go Gold either....only Buck and Game actually ended up with fans of their own.

it's well known that the G Unit stans would "adjust" numbers and provide links to random shyt with claims Banks and Yayo did numbers they never did.

3.Q has fans, but cats really seem to forget that the majority of those TDE fans, are simply Kendrick fans, who aren't gonna go and buy the other rappers albums.

Yayo did 200k in his first week, Banks did 500k... so yea, you tell me how that worked out for them. You don't understand if Schoolboy Q didn't have his own fans he wouldn't be doing the pre-sale numbers he's doing and people wouldn't go out of their ways to buy tickets to his shows. So it's not me moseying around your point, it's just that the point you are trying to make is invalid. You haven't done enough research.

Yayo did 200k? Banks did 500k? But 50 did 1.14 M his first week.....or did this not happen?

can you explain this magical 600-900k disparity in first weeks? or was it cause the majority of those G Unit fans, were just 50 fans?

Nobody said that Q didn't have fans, i said that all those TDE fans aren't Schoolboy fans.

YOU don't know what you're talking about, and just blindly stanning TDE.

Top Dawg is expecting the same results from a rapper who didn't get a full push as the next greatest thing from California, none of the media coverage, no commercials,no co-sign from Dr. Dre, little to no radio play in his own city.

whatever you need to believe for them to sell you that dream, continue with it breh.

50 was already established at that point, Yayo did 200k with literally no fanbase at all, other than those G-Unit fans. Banks did 500k which is nothing to laugh at, he is example of the difference of having a fanbase as opposed to not having one. Schoolboy Q has a fanbase, Yayo wasn't headlining his own damn tour, FOH b. Off the strength of Schoolboy Q's fan bas and being apart of TDE, he can easily do 150+.

It's HIS tweet. My personal prediction was he's going to reach near 200K...

Banks really didn't have a fanbase, that's why after Rotten Apple flopped the way it did, he got dropped from Interscope and you didn't hear an album from him for 4 years.... and his last album was in 2010.

the only two from that camp who proved to have had their own fanbases, were Buck and Game.

and yet again, i said that TDE fans=/= Schoolboy Q fans...not that Schoolboy doesn't have fans.

Easily doing 150k would mean he's on the level of a Wiz, Ross,Wale,TI,Jeezy,Nicki Minaj and pretty much at the top of the second tier of rappers.

Yo that website is interesting as hell, I thought for sure Yayo hit Gold before. So many ducktales on the net I don't know what to believe :pachaha:

According to that website Rick Ross has never had Plaques at all though. I dunno how legit this is breh :patrice:

Edit... I found a couple for Ross, search function is weak though

Rotter Apple went gold overseas, selling 143 in it's first week. The reason Banks didn't sustain his fanbase was because he took so long to drop his 3rd album.

Schoolboy Q has a good enough fanbase to where he could do 150. On top of the fact the people who don't know much about him are probably going to buy it off the strength of his TDE assosiation. Without the TDE assosiation, Q has a loyal fanbase of people who like his music. 150k isn't out of his range.

The sales climate was different. None of them nikkaz aside from 50 would do any numbers today.

50 ain't going to do 50 numbers today... that's not the point.

the point is if you come out with a grounded loyal fanbase and grind and able to grow that fanbase....that loyal group of fans will stick with you. if you are able to have an already established fanbase, and join or be part of a group label or clique that is currently the hottest out, you are guaranteed success. in fact, lets USE 50 cent. in 2002, 50 cent had a HUGE buzz, based on gaining a large underground fanbase. he was the most wanted free agent at the time. then he signed with eminen & dr. dre who BOTH were at the peak of their own individual successes with the chronic 2001 album and the MMLP. so, with 50 ALREADY having established his fanbase, and joining shady/aftermath.... the mere ANTICIPATION was next level!

this then benefit his own G-Unit clique. They're feeding off the success that 50 cent obtained.

This is the same thing right now with Schoolboy Q. Schoolboy Q, from years of his own grind and shows, and previous independent albums and so forth, HAS his own fanbase. Then being part of TDE, he's connected to that larger group, then being Kendrick's right hand man and the mega-success he has, he got those fans to check him out... then you have those outside that are curious about whut the hype is all about, and they'll check it out.

It's BECAUSE Kendrick is at the top of the rap game right now, and BECAUSE TDE is the hottest label doing it right now, along with his hard SELF grind selling out his OWN individual shows, and parlaying, and putting that grind in, that it's a no-brainer he will have success in sales.
