"ScHoolboy Q has started the year off right, with a handful of new gold and platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
On Wednesday (January 3), eight singles and one album from the Los Angeles native were awarded new certifications by the RIAA. Going gold for the first time were his 2016 E-40 assisted song āDope Dealer,ā his 2019 Travis Scott-assisted single āCHopstix,ā his 2014 2 Chainz-assisted song, āWhat They Wantā and his 2019 album, CrasH Talk.
Qās 21 Savage-assisted song āFloatingā and āNumb Numb Juiceā ā both released in 2019 ā both went platinum for the first time, while 2014ās āStudioā and āMan of the Yearā both made it to 3x platinum and 2015ās āCollard Greensā with Kendrick Lamar is now 4x platinum.
The new musical milestones arrive at the top of what ScHoolboy Q has promised will be a major comeback ā which hopefully will include his first album in nearly five years.
While attending Top Dawg Entertainmentās 10th annual Christmas toy drive last month, Q told TMZ that heās got āsomething special [for 2024]. Iāma be back. I will be back!ā
Last summer, he gave the Back On Figg podcast a preview of his long-awaited album, and the hosts told fans it would be coming āvery, very soon.ā
āThis is something big right now,ā they said on the show. āWe have been in the studio with my brother every week. The album sounding fire. Fire, you know what Iām saying?ā
They continued: āItās crazy to be in those processes because Iāve never really been in the mixing process. Itās also an experience, you feel me. And we kind of documenting the whole process⦠The album is there.ā
Co-signing their news with the caption, āMy guys,ā Q then reassured a fan who asked if he was capping this time. āIām actually not,ā he said.
The as-of-yet untitled effort will follow 2019ās CrasH Talk, which featured appearances from Travis Scott, 6lack, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi and Lil Baby. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 81,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week, making for ScHoolboy Qās third Top 10 album.
Of course, the āCHopstixā rapper has been promising this album for some time now ā once telling fans that they could expect it at the top of 2021.
He also promised during a performance at Londonās O2 Academy Brixton in January 2020 that his follow-up album would be released in 2020.
āIāma constantly be here bruh, Iām not lying to you, I swear to God,ā he said. āIāma drop a whole other album this year, I promise you that. I promise you that, Iām not lying this time! And Iām the most lying-ist muthafukka ever! Iāll drop next month. Yeah right. N-gga, Iām dropping an album this year, I promise you that.
āIāve been working on this album since CrasH Talk came out. I been working non-stop. I constantly work because Iām hungry and I love to create. And every time when I come out and I see my fans, it makes me appreciate this shyt way more than what it is.ā
As of now, ScHoolboy Qās last music drop was the one-off single āSoccer Dadā in April 2022. Listen to the Tae Beast, DJ Fu and Skhye Hutch-produced track here."
