ScHoolboy Q Scores String Of Platinum & Gold Plaques Ahead Of 2024 Comeback

"ScHoolboy Q has started the year off right, with a handful of new gold and platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

On Wednesday (January 3), eight singles and one album from the Los Angeles native were awarded new certifications by the RIAA. Going gold for the first time were his 2016 E-40 assisted song “Dope Dealer,” his 2019 Travis Scott-assisted single “CHopstix,” his 2014 2 Chainz-assisted song, “What They Want” and his 2019 album, CrasH Talk.

Q’s 21 Savage-assisted song “Floating” and “Numb Numb Juice” — both released in 2019 — both went platinum for the first time, while 2014’s “Studio” and “Man of the Year” both made it to 3x platinum and 2015’s “Collard Greens” with Kendrick Lamar is now 4x platinum.

The new musical milestones arrive at the top of what ScHoolboy Q has promised will be a major comeback – which hopefully will include his first album in nearly five years.

While attending Top Dawg Entertainment’s 10th annual Christmas toy drive last month, Q told TMZ that he’s got “something special [for 2024]. I’ma be back. I will be back!”

Last summer, he gave the Back On Figg podcast a preview of his long-awaited album, and the hosts told fans it would be coming “very, very soon.”

“This is something big right now,” they said on the show. “We have been in the studio with my brother every week. The album sounding fire. Fire, you know what I’m saying?”

They continued: “It’s crazy to be in those processes because I’ve never really been in the mixing process. It’s also an experience, you feel me. And we kind of documenting the whole process… The album is there.”

Co-signing their news with the caption, “My guys,” Q then reassured a fan who asked if he was capping this time. “I’m actually not,” he said.

The as-of-yet untitled effort will follow 2019’s CrasH Talk, which featured appearances from Travis Scott, 6lack, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi and Lil Baby. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 81,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week, making for ScHoolboy Q’s third Top 10 album.

Of course, the “CHopstix” rapper has been promising this album for some time now – once telling fans that they could expect it at the top of 2021.

He also promised during a performance at London’s O2 Academy Brixton in January 2020 that his follow-up album would be released in 2020.

“I’ma constantly be here bruh, I’m not lying to you, I swear to God,” he said. “I’ma drop a whole other album this year, I promise you that. I promise you that, I’m not lying this time! And I’m the most lying-ist muthafukka ever! I’ll drop next month. Yeah right. N-gga, I’m dropping an album this year, I promise you that.

“I’ve been working on this album since CrasH Talk came out. I been working non-stop. I constantly work because I’m hungry and I love to create. And every time when I come out and I see my fans, it makes me appreciate this shyt way more than what it is.”

5 years since the last album, limited features, limited touring or festivals since the initial album tour. His career basically got iced for no logical reason. A guy who had so much personality and was entertaining stopped tweeting, stopped making fun golf vids, stopped doing anything publicly and the public...moved on.

Same with Jay Rock, who dropped 5 singles last year and still doesn't have an album release date. Something is wrong at that label and it's been the case for a long time. How many times have we seen this movie btw. Album doesn't come out, and then the next year you got multiple artists trying to drop and it's obvious they won't do so in a timely fashion. Assuming Jay Rock comes out first....does that mean Q drops in the summer? Fall? Winter? Who knows.

TDE is terrified to put out bad product after all the quality and critical darling stuff they basically made their name off of. All that has basically come back to bite in recent years because most of their new talent is mid and their old roster taking 5+ years to put out new work. If you believe the artists, its not like they aren't recording either, pretty much ever artist on the label got public comments complaining about Punch sitting on albums/songs etc.

I have no idea. It's not money tho: SZA and old Kendrick albums will keep the lights on for years. Sometimes life shyt holds their artists up but you can't tell me their entire roster can't drop music consistently due to that. Only thing I can think of is that the label is run by a bunch of old dudes who refuse to acknowledge it's not 2013 anymore. You need to drop consistently right now and have social media presence to keep fans engaged. If you aren't a superstar like Kendrick/SZA you gotta drop every couple years.

It's insane to me when I see anyone that doesn't realize this. I see indie labels advertising not even albums, but SINGLES...multiple weeks in advance...

Just drop that shyt. No one cares or can remember that far out. And everything is content now. If you got music, drop that shyt. Period. It's a different era. Everything is content now.

I don't really agree with people saying its necessary to drop constantly. If you're trying to capture the attention of ADD 17 year olds, sure, but if you're an artist like Q who's been out for a long time and has plenty of fans in their mid-30s, I think dropping a million sub par projects just to generate social media engagement is not a good look.

Look at Griselda--if Conway and WSG were a bit choosier in what they put out and took the time to release only stuff that's really focused and high in quality, they'd be in a better place commercially as well. Benny takes that approach (mostly) and he's the only one of the 3 who can really generate any anticipation these days.

That said Q has gone way too long without an album

Schoolboy Q is ass and has been since the beginning. Kendrick was the only one you could count on to put out good, interesting music regularly. Ab-Soul is a horrible rapper voice/delivery wise. Cannot stand his music. Q could be alright but his beat selection is WOAT. Have you heard that single he put out a year ago? Soccer Dad?

Jay Rock is cool but his music isn't that interesting to me. Isaiah Rashad had the best TDE release ever but it looks different looking back considering what came out about him. All that slick talking about bytches seems a little funny in the light.
