This one better in my opinion:

Bonus: The Purge, Los Awesome, and Californication

Put the 3 worst songs as bonuses, automatically get rid of the "filler"

What They Want and Studio both have a modern, trap or r'n'b approach, so separate it from the rest of the album. Plus, the second and 3rd track always gotta be a lil different from the rest.

Studio is also the only song that can segue into Collard Greens on the album, besides His & Her Fiend which has a better place on the album after Collard Greens, right before Grooveline Pt. 2, Pusha Man, and Gravy, 4 songs which all have slow, rock to it lean to it pacing.

Then Blind Threats and Break the Bank, the two most "hip-hop" songs on the album in my opinion back to back, which goes into Hell of a Night, a welcome change that sets off Man of the Year. The two songs are sonically very similar, and then Hoover Street starts the last part of the album, which follows Prescription/Oxymoron, a logical transition story wise. Yay Yay would be the obligatory celebratory second to last song before fukk LA, the epilogue.

I got Blind threats with Break the Bank too. And I was also thinking of Yay Yay being a celebratory ending before fukk LA and after Man of the year but meh. Leave it as a bonus. Cant just put the three worst as bonuses when thats subjective in itself. Californication and the Purge are bangers.

I got His and Her friend with Collard Greens cause I figure why use the his or her friend interlude twice especially within 2,3 tracks of one another? That shyt is best done after Los Awesome. Los Awesome is actually dope too.

I dont think Gravy fits in much. Pusha Man leads perfectly into Grooveline 2 if you listen to the beat and ending/beginning

Also...Los Awesome is the most unique song on the album. shyt is on some rocket power shyt.

3.5 stars out of 5, and 4 if it were to cut the fat.

Studio, The Purge, and Hell of a Night all don't fit, and it's like they're placed at literally the worst places possible, IMO.

Hoover Street gives such a menacing groove with that beat change for the second half of the song then it goes into that soft "Studio" shyt. "Prescription/Oxymoron" would've been a perfect follow-up to "Hoover St.," both sonically and topically. He would've went from talking about his relative being a drug addict to himself being a drug addict. Would've been perfect. :wow:

"Prescription/Oxymoron" is an incredible centerpiece to the album, but then it's followed by this contrived-feeling beat (and a completely useless Tyler feature) for "The Purge." :dwillhuh: What makes that more frustrating is that I think "Blind Threats" would be a VERY strong follow-up to Prescription/Oxymoron, because it keeps that dark tone to it.

Whenever this record gets a rhythm to it, it sacrifices that groove for records that it seems like they didn't want to throw away, or felt they had to make to compete commercially, so they just found a place to fit them. Doesn't feel as deliberate as the other TDE releases, to me. So from that POV, this is the first album to show TDE's mortality, to me. But it's still a good album.

From my Armchair A&R perspective:
-Los Awesome isn't my speed, but it's growing on me. Plus, I don't hate it since it leads into Collard Greens pretty well. I'd leave that where it is.
-I would've been fine with "Studio" staying on the album, but not as song no. 6. Put that after "Blind Threats," or after "His and Her Fiend." It's not a bad song, but it doesn't have any place in the tone that the rest of the album sets. Let Hoover Street, Prescription/Oxymoron, and Blind Threats breath. Or even put Blind Threats between Hoover Street and Prescription/Oxymoron, if you're uncomfortable with two songs that are so long in between each other.
-Completely erase The Purge and Hell of a Night. Maybe as bonus tracks, but they don't add to the album at all, IMO.
-Add "Yay Yay" into the real tracklist, not just as a bonus. It would fit damn near anywhere between 5-the end of the album.

With that tracklist, it's a 4-star album IMO. Get rid of the unnecessary songs, and this is the hardest-sounding album on a major label in years :wow: it already is, but I think that tracklist makes it more unapologetic

Los Awesome is a no-go. It ends with the same tune His & Her Fiend starts with, which means they're meant to be very far apart from each other. This is also for the best cohesive listening experience possible, and Los Awesome + Californication just do not fit.

I can agree with you on swapping Pusha Man and Grooveline 2, and with that putting His & Her Fiend before CG. I also agree that Gravy is unnecessary so you can take that off too. But with that, their isn't an establishment of mood with the tracklist you have. It jumps around a lot. I mean in the original tracklist putting Hell of a Night + Break the Bank + Man of the Year made sense because they were high energy turn up songs. Los Awesome before Collard Greens for the only fun-seeking songs on the album with back to back TDE members made sense. Purge before Blind Threats made sense because they were both throwbacks. So again, the tracklist gotta make sense first and foremost

And that explanation you posted is trying to make a story out of the album, which is all up to interpretation sure but it's fabricating some sort of weaved storyline into an album that doesn't intend to have one.... Sonic cohesiveness always takes precedence. I do like Studio -> Pusha Man -> Grooveline 2, Man of the Year -> fukk LA and Oxymoron -> Hell of a Night though

mine is sonically cohesive breh. I think we just have diff ideas on how an album should flow. to each his own. One thing you said that I agree with is the His or Her Friend thing. I think the end of Los Awesome should be removed
