Fair point. I think it Depends on if we can set up a semi-permanent outpost off Earth in the next few decades. Doesnt really matter where it is set up; it could be the moon, cis-lunar space, mars, or a proper settlement in geo-orbit. Such a settlement should allow us to spread the risk and not leave all our eggs in the basket called earth.I truly believe that we wont make it another couple hundred years.
It was reassuring seeing something as simple as the astronauts on the ISS being covid free while the terrestrial inhabitants of Earth were losing our minds last year. If the ISS was more self sufficient, then they would be immune to other earthly problems as well. If it were as far away as the moon, then it would nuclear war-proof as well.
