Fair point. I think it Depends on if we can set up a semi-permanent outpost off Earth in the next few decades. Doesnt really matter where it is set up; it could be the moon, cis-lunar space, mars, or a proper settlement in geo-orbit. Such a settlement should allow us to spread the risk and not leave all our eggs in the basket called earth.

It was reassuring seeing something as simple as the astronauts on the ISS being covid free while the terrestrial inhabitants of Earth were losing our minds last year. If the ISS was more self sufficient, then they would be immune to other earthly problems as well. If it were as far away as the moon, then it would nuclear war-proof as well.

In its 4.5. billion years, the earth has already had five Extinction Level Events, and there will be more. We are not that special of a species.

We keep grafting on human behaviors from the past to aliens. Its like how in the 1980s and earlier the assumption would be that in 2015 people would be using video calls to talk to eachother. They completely missed the fact that texting would be a thing because they were assuming humans want to talk to each other face to face.

Aliens probably already have seen humans. They probably view us the same way as we view amoeba under a microscope. You look at it, watch how it behaves get bored and then move on to the next thing. Humans will probably be gone in the next 400 years, replaced completely by artificial life forms. Assuming we don't nuke ourselves back to the stone age or go extinct from the perfect storm of disease, war, and climate change.
