Can't find a link to the episode where he talks about the feedback problem, but, in the nutshell, radiation would cause a 'feedback loop' similar to being at a rock concert and the speakers are too close to the microphone. The time portal would explode.
If you want to mentally grasp the 4th dimension watch this.
There's some newer stuff like this too but he keeps it simple as possible.

For those that think moving physical objects faster than light and through time and all
It just simply cannot happen. An analogy would be trying to fit a camel through the eye of a needle. Not any mysterious shyt just: here's a camel, here's a needle. Can't be done.
Some of the reason is: as the object gets faster it gets exponentially more massive. Such that the fuel to propel it any faster would become too massive to even push itself.
The more fuel the harder to push it, such that you can never have enough fuel.
