I guess this is good. I can see both sides...

I'm in favor of capital punishment and think it should be extended to more crimes.

i get that in theory.
there are absolutely crimes that are worthy of death.

however if you are in America you must know that race first off then closely behind money play the biggest role in death sentences being given.

are you familiar with the innocence project? do you know how many innocent people have been sentenced to death in this country or actually executed?

:what:

But were not putting people to death in cases of wrongful imprisonment.

that's not the same at all. That's not even close.

:why:

I guess it depends on your perspective honestly. I'm sure there are prisoners in jail that would prefer to die than serve a life sentence or something astronomically long. Obviously I don't think innocent people should be put to death. I don't know the stats, but how often have wrongful executions taken place?

States haven't admitted to wrongful executions. I doubt anyone has credible numbers.

No, I don't know the numbers. There will always be mistakes in all aspects of life where peoples's lives are at risk. I don't think we should abolish the death penalty because of that. I know that's harsh, but it's just my opinion. I know everyone won't agree. I also don't feel like we should house violent criminals in jail who could be put to death for long periods of time at tax payer expense when there are other things we could be spending money on. Obviously these are taken on a case by case basis. Not sentencing one person to death could be taking away funding from programs to deter behaviors that landed many people in jail in the first place. One could argue that's sentencing future generations to lives of incarceration or death as well. This is a bit far fetched I know...

Of course they are not if it happens. It's all politics. They would rather execute an innocent guy or use the shyt wrongly in order for whoever to stay in office than to risk it all. The only states that have gotten rid of it are the states that never or rarely use it where nobody cares.

It actually is a good analogy by @tater , your logic would apply to every facet of the criminal justice system including imprisonment. Your argument rests more with the severity of the punishment than with error of process.

You would normally be right.
:ehh:

however, I was specific to the form of punishment. I made it clear that I was referring specifically to execution.

So yes his anology would be correct for every scenerio... that involves execution.

"Capital punishment is flawed because there's always the possibility of wrongful execution."

im in favor of killing people like this

but im almost at the point where i cant support the death penalty, because the process is so disgusting and weve killed so many people who were innocent. all the dna evidence overturns, racist fukkin courtrooms, etc :scusthov: this system is just awful

i dont agree but Im not gonna bash your opinion.
Just so you know its more expensive to house/ exhaust appeals of a death row prisoner than it is to just give em life though.

More likely legal action/damages and the possible success of the ensuing appeals by death row prisoners.

So? It would be pointless even after the fact because the guy is already dead. They would rather lie than to risk their political careers on that shyt because that would be career suicide if that happens. Many politicians have built their careers on getting tough on crime.
