This happens every year. Bottom line is NFL players get the shaft with their contracts but they have little power to change because the only thing they can do to force change is a lockout. Football players have short careers and are far more replaceable than basketball players so they'd never do it. NBA players already have guaranteed contracts and know they can go to Europe, Asia or somewhere else and get paid good money for a few years. Thing is guaranteed contracts would be great for players but it would suck for football as a whole. Real talk if a guy has guaranteed money for a few years he's far less likely to get shot up to play with the crazy injuries NFL players play with. Half of those cats should be sitting out but the culture encourages them to play. Plus there should really be 65 players on a team, not 53 (really 45 since that's the game day roster)

6'4+ height in men is super rare so the number of people that can play basketball is alrewary much smaller that can play football. Basic economics says that when two things are in demand, higher scarcity = higher price.
