So let me get this straight. Because the village feared him as a kid because he had the fox inside him (which killed many people and was a massive threat in the past) they should be treating normally? People fear the unknown and he was the kid who actually has a monster inside him, who is to say he doesn't go rampage with it or it takes him over. They had a right to fear him.

Yet you want him to slaughter the entire village, which was home to his parents and the Hokage himself which is a position he dreamed off? Huh nikka? The only reason Itachi killed his village was because it was to save more lives in general and stop a civil war.
