that's by choice, you don't have to sign to a label today. you can bypass labels straight to digital distribution. artists back then didn't have nearly as many independent recording and distribution options. yet people still take poor deals so can they say they were taken advantage of or they make bad decisions?

They had that option back then too. Folks was selling tapes out the truck. Buying their own tapes , pressing them, and releasing them. Folk would travel to each mom and pops and radio station to network. nikkas went to the majors already with an establish fan base moving units. Did there own beats, paid for there own studio time etc
