Only extremely insecure people get some kind of high from people liking the photos/stories they share. Social media is for attention seeking weirdos. Unless you're using it for a business, there's basically no purpose to it outside of fishing for validation from people who really don't give a fukk about you.

Bullshyt. I stay in touch with people through social media who i would have long lost contact with if facebook wouldn't exist. Wenn don't have to communicate very often, but i stay updated on what is going on in their lives by seeing what they are posting online. Wenn don't have to make the active effort of calling or writing, which people stop doing after a couple of years most of the time, but when we see each other we haven't turned into strangers because we kept following each others lives. You don't have to go in ultra instagram model mode to use social media.

See this is one of my (many) gripes with social media. Some people in life you weren't meant to keep in touch with IMO. And reading someone's statuses isn't keeping up with them either. Communication is so impersonal now.

There's a lot of research that's been done on this.

These algorithms are designed to exploit certain vulnerabilities in the human psyche and some very primal needs/impulses that are hardwired into us, to keep us addicted.

I deactivated my Facebook account a couple years ago (I still use messenger though to chat with family and friends), and I really don't miss it at all. I reactivate for a few minutes every 3 months or so to check up on certain people and then I'm ghost.

I don't have Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram.. none of that shyt.

I have an addictive personality so I can totally see myself being too immersed in those platforms if I get used to them, so I'd rather not even sign up.

I barely use the coli these days too

Brehs, just reflect on the fact that there are entire armies of highly paid (cac) geeks whose only job is to come up with ways to keep you glued to your screen and spend as much time on their platforms as possible. shyt should piss you off tbh..

They have seminars for app developers that teach them the latest research and how to make use of it to create an addiction for their particular app..

But, on to another, more pressing component to this story. White people are enjoying billions by becoming masters of the universe with these social media platforms that millions of black people use yet don't receive a dime from. And if Tariq or any other black entrepreneur tried to create their own platform to compete, many of those same black people would stay put and continue generating the clicks that eventually line the pockets of Facebook executives. This is a company that had 20 black people (most likely gay males, lesbians and/or bedwenches) among tens of thousands. fukk this dude, fukk Zuckerberg, and fukk Facebook. Also, fukk black people who want to be the pawns of massively imbalanced wealth that will never see a dime of which reach our community.

Black people are among the biggest content generators for these platforms and aren't benefiting at all!
