An official review is an official review, the timeout could be just for more time to bytch about it. Is it smart ? It is if you win your case.

so he basically threw the challenge flag?Because Payton called the timeout. The time used for the timeout was able to be spent reviewing the play....60 seconds + however long an NFL timeout is.
why wouldn't they review that anyway if they are trying to get the call right?it was the first half, so the timeout is virtually meaningless. he wanted to make sure they looked at if the runner was down by contact, and not just if he fumbled out of the end zone, which would have been a major swing. the potential reward far outweighed the worthless first half timeout
