It's funny me and my sister (who is half puerto rican) got into this argument the other day.

it's nonsense.... It's a black american artform, that was assisted by Blacks of Jamaican and Carribbean descent.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Little off topic but the older you get the more you start to realize just how pointless and backwards that all the categorizing/dividing/grouping people as this and that really is.

Black people? Okay, but what kind of black people?
Caribbean? Okay, but what part of the Caribbean?
Jamaica? Okay, but where in Jamaica?
Spanishtown? Okay, but North or South?
North? Okay, but what neighborhood?
Etc…

It’s ridiculous, lol. I understand tribalism, it was a key component to our survival as a species…but we should be wayyyyyy past that at this point in our timeline.

But whatever, 🤷🏽‍♂️, keep highlighting any and all differences, 🫡
Did u see the post I made tho? How they tried remove black Americans from the fold?

brother we are talkin about the culmination, its agreed it was early 70s, 71, 72

that was 50 yrs ago. please dont try to bring up the jubilariees and shyt.
2023 – 1971 = 52 :unimpressed: That's more than 50 years. Now 53+ years.

The establishment narrative is that Kool Herc "started" Hip Hop in August 1973.

And this is why black Americans need to start taking ownership of shyt and this is why history is so important. Pete Rock should be ashamed of himself as a producer and DJ. nikka what records was u flipping and sampling? Was it reggae or was it soul, jazz and rnb?

This the shyt Tariq been calling out and one of the few that's vocal but the coli hates him

Maybe it has to do with the demographic change in New York: more and more Carribean (including DR and PR) than Black american, at least in what I see in influence

Just an hypothesis
I think the difference is, Black Americans in Hip Hop didn’t celebrate their Southern roots like the Caribbean folks celebrated their’s.
:manny:

Now that Northern elitism has come back to bite.
:manny:

With that being said, the video in the OP is down but if Pete really said that he’s on some clown shyt, especially considering he literally calls his self Soul Brotha #1.
