The Democrat party destroyed themselves.

Instead of listening to the people they decided to shove Hilary down throats and minimize Bernie at every chance.

It's now splintered the party and left it in shambles.

Which in turn allowed the republicans to take control because republicas stick together and stay on message.

It's to be expected though. Liberal principles are often at odds with one another.

Conservative principles generally fall in line regarding their major positions.

Cool the Democrats finally have their own version of the Libertarian Party. All their "serious" candidates will still run as Democrats though... they know the drill.

To be fair, I don't think a self-described Libertarian has ever come as close to winning the Republican nomination as Bernie Sanders did to winning the Democratic nomination.

Basically

This is the Left's equivalent of the Tea Party

Eh I would say the "Justice Democrats" are the Tea Party equivalent. Both of them aren't actual parties but factions within the Democratic and Republican parties respectively.

Libertarians and Democratic Socialists are actually separate parties. What I meant was I'd expect there to be a Ron Paul, and lesser extent Rand Paul, types on the left who would fit right in with the DSA, but remain Democrats for viability (e.g funding).

That's a valid argument; however, the Democratic field was notoriously weak, I question his ability to win primaries if someone like Elizabeth Warren were in the field, and I guess it depends on what your definition of close is. Of course you can only compete with the people who enter so I don't hold that against him and he certainly did better than most expected.

I'd say Ron Paul was the right's equivalent to Bernie Sanders. Old guy who'd been around for decades, discernible from the establishment (Paul so than Sanders), and appealed to college aged voters. Paul predated the Tea Party and was by and large a Tea Party hero (before the Kochs heavily co-opted it). The Justice Democrats were created by Sanders supporters.

I'm sure you can see the superficial narrative similarities.
