I worked with a dude in goverment who actually did no work as far as I could see. Dude was single, had a house, and a bmw, making bank.... All they did was move him around from division to division inside of the research and development center. He ended up working with my group for a while, and the 1 or 2 probjects he had to complete never got completed before they moved him again. Did not fire him.

Of course he had the complexion for the protection, but still showed how hard it was to get fired from the government side once you get in....

Government jobs are basically a golden ticket. Government workers are less high strung than in the private sector by far because the job is so laid back. The pay isn't the best and your raises aren't usually that much and depends all on how legislators decide to vote on government workers pay. But they usually make up for it with good benefits.
