It’s definitely a timing thing, once you figure it out it’s light work, just takes a while. Also use your buffs liberally, it’ll help speed up the fight a bit

First time I played, the first real Genichiro made me quit for a few wks from beating my ass so bad, and I eventually got through him. This playthrough I got right to the statue before him and had to put the game down for a couple days. Started back last night, went straight to him with no warmup and beat dude in two tries, no cheese no buffs realized the game has fully clicked for me. Might be time to ring that bell and do some NG+
