But letting racists run things is fine right?

What could happen?

Not like they will release robotic cars that will run us down

In the long run, it doesn't matter as long as black people don't run anything. Silicon Valley is not known for being the home of hardcore Trump supporters. It's not about racist running things or anti-racists running things. It's about black people being out of the game.

We can't base our entire survival strategy on other people good faith.

Black people use science since Africa. However, some black people are skeptics, for historical reasons, when it comes to euro-centric science.

Science is nothing but knowledge, whatever the type of knowledge we're talking about. Science did not start with Descartes or rationalism.

However, you're right when you talk about the lack of interest in hard sciences. I think this aspect has more to do with American culture than AA. Just compare Nigerians with AA. The firsts seem to be deep in hard science compared to AA. The same thing can be said about white Americans. You also find a disinterest for hard science among them: they rather do business or law. That's why the percentage of foreign students in hard science in America keeps increasing.

But maybe there is also a problem specific to AA but I don't see it.

Science is not knowledge. Science is derived from a systemic method of scrutinizing and testing the observable universe. Knowledge, which you can get just by reading a book, is different.

The nuance is key

Science is knowledge. You're making a common mistake. What you're describing is a type of knowledge, acquired thru a specific methodology.

"Scientia" literally means knowledge. This is why Egyptians, for instance, kept mixing observable things and mystic and divination. Just look at their medicine.

What you say is not wrong but it's the comprehension that emerged later of science. It wasn't always like that. That's why even in the 16th century in Europe, they were talking about "occult sciences", which today won't be included in science.

Interesting perspective! I shall mull over it

What expectations are people setting for their children? My parents want us to be doctors, pharmacists, chemists etc.

They constantly put science books in our hands and instilled the importance of understanding mathematics and the scientific method.

The mathematical part of my brain died after trying to grasp advanced functions so now I'm in law school - however my siblings are heavily involved in the sciences and one is pursuing a masters in neuroscience.

What were you told to be as children? Parents have to instill values and REALISTIC expectations.
