Imma make this real simple here's why

The Academic :
  • The academic usually follows steps from one set of philosophy. That makes his approach mechanical and lethargic.

  • Much of the time the academic hasn't actually went out and try to do any of the things he writes about or experience any of the things he talks about. He just reports through the lens of the method that he was taught in academia.
  • Academics tend to hide their fear and apprehension and biases behind data in statistics. They and very good at faking objectivity.

The self studied man (autodidactic) :
  • Simply put that failed this way to success. He knows what can work and what won't work because he's been there.

  • The self-study man more than likely has his pulse what's going on NOW as opposed to relying on old data.
Say what you want about Tariq Nasheed but his "Hidden Colors" series is a perfect example of this. With all the Black American academics we have, it took somebody from outside that world to really know what Black America needed in the way of historical information. Which leads me to my next point...

The self-study man is free of all the red tape and politics that handcuffs the academic. He doesn't have to play like he's objective if he doesn't want to or it doesn't make sense to.

Another examples Malcolm X you never attended University but was an excellent speaker, debater, and was free basically to say things that no academic could say or clergyman for that matter. Yet he resonated heavily with an acute portion of the black community.

Respect academics and data but don't be scared to take your gloves off and get your hands dirty...

And keep rockin'...

No comparison, imo.

Sure a "self-studied" dude can have knowledge and shyt.
But you're a goddamn fool if you don't prefer the important shyt in your life to be done by academics.

Who here is gonna hire a self-taught electrician?
Or drive on a bridge built by people who don't have civil engineering degrees?
Who's getting on a plane being flown by a self-taught pilot?
You going under the knife of a self-taught surgeon?

:camby: with this "superior" shyt.

You may not want to repeat that around other black people who know better.... and the definition of academic is simply relating to scholarship....... but your post still has a lot of merit

Academics don’t self study? :why:

I can pretty much guarantee somebody who spends 4-10 years learning something in a structured environment and supplements that with their own learning knows more about the same thing than the “self studier”

I'm guessing he means academic in the sense of dealing with ideology/theory... not anything practical

the academic usually works for, or answers to the self-studied man.

both are important though, cause the "self studied" man always looks to the academics when its time to enlist people for a project or when its time to hire people into a company or when its time to chop up game, etc etc

I hear what you sayin though

Well a lot of people in the trades aren't totally self study but they have mentors.

And what they do is they get so much hands-on experience thats its lot like a self-studied person.

You won't find a lot of electricians or plumbers that got most of their knowledge for sitting in the classroom somewhere.
So as far as that goes I don't think you've proven me wrong totally.

Now what can happen is that you can get education in one area and be so study in another.

That electrician might be able to grasp things like circuitry and other better because he has a background electricity and as an electrician.

That alone might lead to all types of other Discovery somebody trained in say computer science MIGHT NOT have the eye to SEE because they're not coming from the point of view of an electrician.

Think about that...
