Also this is a very neoliberal way of thinking : self-teaching is better than academia (=stay out of it while we continue sending our children to top-notch universities), be an entrepreneur (=takes risks because society doesn't care about you). It's the whole "Pull your bootstraps up" way of thinking : supposedly we're all the same (we aren't) and have the same opportunities (we don't) so if you don't self-teach yourself and start your own business, well it's your fault you failed. While the leading classes keep on accumulating wealth and knowledge, and passing it down to their kids who network in big universities.

But yeah every now and than you get a cinderella story of the so-called "self-made man", "proof" that you don't need to study.

It's certainly cheaper. In the tech world, there is no shortage of self taught people doing they thing.

Not to rip into you, but the Rothschilds are not “key” in banking, and haven’t been since the early 1/2 of the 20th century.
The father of the family patriarch was also a trader and worked in currency, it wasn’t pure autodidactism.
Have you heard of BlackRock?

I'm talking about 3 to 400 years ago when the family first came to prominence in Western Europe when Banking was a despised profession.

And yes I have heard Black Rock. It's a private Equity Firm. But how does that prove you wrong?

If you ask me do I hang around a lot of college professors and people would have advanced degrees in all honesty no I don't.

At this point in my life I don't hang around a lot of people days anymore.
