I know the first time i heard this phrase was when LL dropped his album GOAT in 2000 (which ironically was one of his worst releases), but was this word/phrase used widely before that?

The real question should be. Who gets credit for the phrase "Stan".
I mean, yeah Eminem had the song "Stan", but Nas was the first to call someone "A Stan" which he got from the Em song. Em was talking about a character, but Nas was using it as a diss to dikk riders.

Ali used to call himself the Greatest of All Time, but LL is the first one that I know of that used it as an acronym.
LL popularized it in hip hop. First hip hop artist to use it, that I know of, and actually named one of his albums GOAT.
Yeah it's LL..and now it's a term the coli uses as much as people use the word "literally" and both annoy me..but I still love you all
