I see it from both sides, resources are always limited and like everything there are some that will abuse any form of kindness or generosity. However, I would say to the good senator, who I think is one of the less insane of American politicians who I think would be a better choice than say Hillary bulldyke warmongering clinton to be president ,who I do have some admiration for , there is a saying of some sort 'walk a mile in my shoes', he has been blessed to be in the position he is in,from the family he is from, we all know who his father is, he was lucky to be shyt out of his mothers womb when others are born into total deprevation , or who are born with disabilties, or perhaps develop them.I don't begrudge him that, he was lucky and despite his background I suspect he worked damn hard, but he had a headstart in life, lets be honest.
He talks of anxiety and back pain , some are completely crippled and housebound from both conditions, while others are able to contribute to society but are too damn lazy to.But the fact is, I think it unhelpful to make statements like that about any group of people, because those who are genuine will get looked upon in a negative way, because a man ,a senator no less said it.
One issue, regarding anxiety I think is worth mentioning, decades ago, there was a curious alliance between those on the left and right to close mental asylums, it didn't just happen in the US, he UK also went through the same sea change of thinking when it came to mental health. The right made the case, there wasn't the money for asylums, that they were outmoded and it is would be more cost effective to treat mental patients in the community, the left said that mental asylums were inhumane and that according to them mass drugging out in the community with linadequate support was...?? there is also the role the drug companies had here, with their claim that there drugs meant people could be cared for safelty in the community and asylums were not needed in the same way they made loads of money off these claims , but that is another discussion.... But the result was, many folk who really ought to be looked after and cared for were dumped, on the streets, and given these disability cheques. And the old asylums were knocked down and in place were expensive housing developments ,hotels etc etc.
So to me, it seems rather unfair, to then take away a grand or so a month,or talk about scam artists, to try and push the case that the money ought to be took away from them, when as can be seen society has already failed them, because over the years all that far too many of us seem to care about is money and being selfish.Even their own families, in some cases, that is how far the rot in western social values has set in. and to be honest that worries me far more, than maybe a few con artists getting a grand a month, there is a much bigger issue here. that the senator will not discuss.
For those who begrudge them it, mental illness, is no discrimnator, of race, gender or profession or social class ,if it strikes you, you may need that help,or someone in your family may and believe me apart from the emotional cost there is can be a huge finanical cost as well.
Iam a conservative, on the far right, but Iam also a realist about how plausible certain policies and ideas are on the right and left for the real world , there is always a balance to be stuck, and I think we have gone far too in the direction on the cost of things rather than what is good for society and the indivdual. If it was up to me, I would bring the asylums back in some way ,a cheque a few pills and then forgetting about a person is just not good enough . And don't get me wrong, of course there must be medical tests for those who claim disability in some form, but statements like 'most people' from a man of his intelligence and background I find difficult to accept.
He has gone down in my estimations.
