First year of college, my first class was at 7 in the morning.
When I got out I went to the Campus Center and it was EMPTY.
That was strange to me, but it was still early so I'm like "well, I'll be first in line for breakfast!"
So I go to the counter to order breakfast - and the kitchen is EMPTY.
I wait there for like 5 minutes in almost silence...I had my discman (lol) bumpin' ...
... I wanna say Kiss The Game Goodbye. I was in East Coast mode because The Blueprint
was dropping that day, so I was getting my mind ready for it.
So after 5 minutes or so, a lady comes from the kitchen and says "Oh, I'm sorry - have you been here long?"
I say "not really..."
She says "I was listening to the radio - there was a terrorist attack in New York, and it sounded like a mess..."
I said "Say word?", and ordered my breakfast (which was bomb) - at this point I'm thinking it's something like they did in '94...
Then when I go to my second class, my Professor comes in all somber and asks if we saw what happened.
A lot of us have just awaken for that class and chit, so they don't know - some say they heard about it on the radio driving to class and whatnot. So we spend half a class talking about it, then he calls class early.
That was my last class of the day, so I'm like "Bet - I'm finna go cop dat Jay!"
On the way to Best Buy - the streets are EMPTY.
On the middle of the daytime in this bustling metropolis...just bare. It felt spooky.
I get to Best Buy and cop, and I'm riding listening to it on the way home like "I think this chit finna be the one"
... I get home and everybody is at home, which is strange for this time of day.
My Pop, Mama, all of my sisters, my nephews and niece are there because they cancelled school.
Everybody is watching the TV - except Ma who is on the phone freaking out trying to see if anyone has heard from my Auntie, who lives in Washington Heights.
At this point, both of the planes had hit the towers and I finally see it.
They are still trying to find the third plane supposedly headed for the Pentagon. The rest of the day seemed to take forever waiting for that to happen.
