There is something about the production that has undeniably changed in the last 20 years, obviously any music genre changes and expands, evolves, but the instrumentation is fundamentally different.
The “producers” they’re using don’t understand the fundamentals of r&b music

They’re more so rap producers
Their production is rooted in mainstream rap music

So much animosity

RnB used to be so grand. Strings, choir, Smooth guitar, passages, epic intros.

Main stream music sounds so cheap and over commodified. The music is not worth the money

R&B is done. It’s over mainstream wise.

I was listening to Love last week and was :mjcry: The love is gone :wow: The community is gone :wow:

Breh the older stuff actually makes me feel happy. I see how we got through the bad shyt this country did to us. I actually feel better when I let the soul stuff to early 2000’s shyt play

The shyt out now is Black Twitter shade room music

people are more authentic when the sing about personal stuff. so if her lane is male bashing music, she needs to stay in it to be successful.
but remixing a black love song into the complete opposite feels like deliberate, intentional. Algorithmic, anti black male propaganda.

Not enough harmony. It just 808 and synths that sound gutted. It’s like they remove an element out every year

Reason why everyone rocking Asian music now because they doing our old shyt, our old writers are going over there. Modern “dance music” from those hipster YouTube channels is our old shyt.

But man even Trap House 3 and the 2008-2012 mixtape era had good instrumentation on beats.. FOR FREE
Most of today's R&B is being made like Hip-Hop. They're Hip-Hop beats, not really R&B. Hip-Hop beats are usually either 2-bar or 4-bar loops, in terms of the harmony/chords. That means there's not multiple sections in songs. So it's impossible to have key changes, or substitute chords or switching anything up. That's why it all sounds so static.

They do this for a few reasons: two-bar beats can be thrown together faster, you don't need as much experience or training to make those, they're much cheaper to make, and the songs tend to be shorter, making them more approriate for Tik Tok.

I realized how simple almost all of today's music is from learning older music on guitar and comparing that with new music. The older stuff often has alot of variation. The new stuff doesn't.

Yeah a lot of the old stuff is compositionally “correct” and arranged very very well. That’s why I was like cap when some of these musicians claim they weren’t trained or they “figured out” scales on accident. Then you look at their composition and it’s super logical:childplease:

That’s part of the reason why I think music is suffering too. Damn musicians lying about being trained and knowing shyt so they can sell gear and be “down” or look like some genius/prodigy. nikka you went to a music conservatory. It helps commoditize and cheapen the value of it so now we got mediocre producers and musicians out here unless you go underground and find people who have cult followings
