On March 6, 2017, 40 days after Dakota James disappeared, a woman walking her dog saw his body floating in the Ohio River, about 10 miles from where he was last seen in downtown Pittsburgh—at 11:49 p.m. that January night—and about 30 feet from the shore.

His death was ruled an accidental drowning by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office. But a team of retired detectives and a gang expert believe he’s one of about 100 victims of the Smiley-Face Killers, an alleged organized gang of serial killers that communicates on the dark web, with cells in dozens of cities across the United States. An additional 250 cases might be connected, but they can’t prove it, they say.

Not sure a gun will save the victims as the killers patiently get them when their guard is down.

The way the article reads, the victims are always last seen out with friends or out drinking with friends(makes me think 1 or more of the friends are in the cell). All victims have the same drug(GHP I think) in their system. The gang targets college age popular males who are athletic and successsful. Many of the victims have been gay also. It looks like the gang goes after popular, smart, athletic young white guys who are successful in school and/or work. It's like the have nots taking out the haves just becuase.

There was a young cat I worked with that just disappeared last fall. His car was found abandoned at a state park 30 miles away with the windows down, ransacked, and his coat still in the backseat. Soon as they said his car was found at a state park I knew it wasn't gonna end well, cuz the state parks over there are along Lake
Michigan, or another lake. A couple weeks later they found him in the lake. Cause of death was ruled a drowning just like dude in the OP.
