about how up& comers should treat their music

So I peeped a facebook status from my former studio engineer about artists not valuing their work and giving away whole projects for free
Here is the status
http://www.facebook.com/NatCave/posts/4731986370682

Sorry if u might not be able to see the whole status along with the comments but the status says

"I just had an awesome conversation with DeShaun 'RockviewEnt' Oakman. Killed two of my cellphone batteries lol. What up y'all. Can we start a coalition against giving away ALL of our music for free? I really don't like where this trend is taking us. Twice the work with no reward. That's not a business plan. We seriously need to graduate off this level and leave it for the people who have no value for their music. It was a bad idea to begin with, worth trying as a strategy, but I don't see benefits at all. "People don't buy music" is not an excuse. I wouldn't buy anything that doesn't have a price tag on it either. I think it's laziness or perhaps us trying to recreate an idea from someone who only had half an idea to begin with and really didn't know what the hell they were talking about. What do you think? What can we do? Comments? Suggestions?"

Basically those who commented say its used for promotion but the OP argues that giving away whole album quality projects fro free is devaluing your work and that it cheapens ur work and gives ur audience a perception that ur music aint worthy of their money.

Piracy, and the internet climate come into teh convo but my question is(hopefully u guys could see the status update) do you think up& comers need to stop goin to the studio spending their hard earned money to give away album quality mixtapes for free.

SHould they limit it to a few tracks and promote em to get people behind u so they would pay to see and listen to ur work?
