Serious question, but why do we listen to Jay-Z?

I'll never understand that either. I feel a couple of the coli heroes are wack, like Gucci etc, but I will never listen to their music, and I sure as hell won't post in threads regarding them or make hundreds of threads trying to shyt on them.
If you like them, that's great, but it seems that these cats can't take it that these artists they don't like have fans who enjoy their music.
The truth? Because he's ugly like most niiggas and those niiggas don't get pusssy

I listen to Jay cause in general I feel he makes good music, got a dope flow, is a dope lyricist, says some real shyt, is witty, got style, tells some dope stories, a lot of reason.
Some people listen to Jay to live vicariously through him and because they are materialistic and they think "he got money" so they respect and listen to him cause of that.

And yes, one could assume that the listener is who rappers are talking to. One time, Bun B dissed Rockport shoes in a song.....while I was driving in the car with my Rockport shoes on listening to this song on the radio.

Like at what point did it go from us being kids or younger and just enjoying rap, to now sitting here listening to Billionaire Hov telling us what hes got, what we don't have, etc. Im not hatin on his success, but wheres the entertainment in that? And on top of that, we're paying (him) for it
Now I know everyone on the Coli is making six-figs, but even at that, you still cant relate to 99% of what hes talking about.
But look at other genres of music and its a stark separation of how its presented to the listener. No other music is the presenter telling you all of what he has(unless it's love or something like that) and what you dont have.
Hes not the only one who kicks the braggin raps, as Nas would say .but even the younger dudes, like Drake, Cole, Wale, etc have other sh*t to rap about other than how much money they have.
So is it just that Jay is the last truly successful rapper left from an era many of us grew up in? The Golden era of rap, if you will .and so we listen to him because hes still here?
