Serious question.. why aren't The Beastie Boys exactly "respected" amongst hip hop heads?

Other than by white hip hop heads. And older cats who G give them respect.

Not only did they help bring a lot of exposure to hip hop during a vital time, they took Public Enemy on tour and always showed and paid respected, didn't pretend to be something they werent and influenced Ice Cube & early NWA. They were amongst their peers of Run DMC, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions etc but their careers in terms of staying musically relevant kinda outlasted them all. And honestly their production and sound for the time was ahead of its time. Still sounds fresh til this day as opposed to a lot of rappers out at the same time.

Is it because their white privilege?

IMHO, their lack of "classics" lyrically. A lot of people look at them as a joke, or the first "culture vultures", even though the first were the Sugarhill Gang/Sugarhill Records. Their contributions are overlooked.
RIP MCA

But like it'd be stupid to Expect that. Considering the time in which they came up and the fact they crossed over. Like We're people expecting some white punks who came from A "I don't give a fukk attitude" sub culture who got into hip hop as just a experminental fun thing after listening to dance hip hop records to be lyrical? That was never their thing, ever.

And yeah their contributions are overlooked.

And yeah their contributions are overlooked. As hell. A lot of people don't know that Dre actually DJed for them when they toured with Run DMC before Dre went on to work with NWA.which is funny since early Cube sounded like a long Beasties member
that wasnt Dr. Dre.. :comeon:

that was Dre from Yo! MTV Raps..
