You answered your question in the end . These videos are made by idiots with no political literacy and they lead other idiots. The government can't stop this. Can't stop every moron with a camera from regurgitating what another moron with a camera said.

Maybe they can go at the source of a lot of this missinformation like the networks that cater to it but that usually only happens when things become legal. Like when Alex Jones finally had to bend the knee to the courts over Sandy Hook lies. It was the parents who made him fall back not the government. If the government started policing discussion there conservatives would have ammo to say they are heavy handed. It is usually when you can prove that the words are causing harm that you can shut down these sources.

Truthfully the root issue is a fundamental flaw in adults who don't vet their information source. It can be considered uneducated behavior. To just run with what you see means on a basic level as an adult you didn't learn a critical skill in your education. This wasn't a big deal when we had less media sources and gate keepers but the internet and social media broke the walls.

Plenty of reasons, all of them stupid.
1. Some of them are genuine believers in the “marketplace of ideas” and think that any speech is fine because you can combat it with commonsense;
2. Some have a naive belief in the moral fortitude of the average (white) American and think that propaganda alone won’t sway voters away from their own interests;
3. Some are likely centrist stooges who hold some right-wing beliefs themselves and don’t think they’re particularly badly;
4. On both the state and the federal level, a lot of them are just outright cowards who have had a flacid response to pretty much everything - and are barely even implementing any counter messaging themselves.

A lot of them also just don’t think it’s their job to counter right-wing propaganda, but also haven’t set up any organizations to do it for them.
