Again I believe that alot of that comes from reinforced seasoning by British colonials during colonialism...there's a book by Antoinette Burton called Heart of the Empire where it talks about the relationship between the colonizers and the colonized in India and England and how they attempted to continue seasoning Indian intellectuals with crap...

The Macro level is the shyt that really matters...where the shyt is so ingrained that like you said the only way to change it is through catastrophic events
On a micro level though there is still a small level of jealousy when it comes to things like pop culture and livelihood generally. Of course athletes are pawns in the grand scheme, but at the same time you can bet your ass that a fan or even player of a team may take displeasure from seeing his black counterparts outperform him.
Some take heed...and some hate. Those who choose to hate may pollute the minds of their offspring and the problem continues. And thats when it becomes large and transcends to become the type of shyt we experience today.

Have you read the history of sports and its implications around the world? Read Theresa Runstedtler's Rebel Sojourner: jack Johnson book; read Gail Bederman's Maniless and Civilization.
