This shouldn't be a negotiable as an adult.
Not having insurance can't be an excuse. Through most jobs it's like $5. On it's own you can find plans that are $20/month.
I remember back in college, I had a nagging toothache. It would come and go, but I didn't have any money. I chewed on one side for like 2 years and got used to it.
One day my sister forced me to go to the dentist and when I went, the doc literally cleared it up in 10 minutes. I remember he told me, "If you sprain your ankle, it will heal itself. Teeth are the only parts of the body that don't repair themselves. Once they are damaged, that's it."
Go every 6 months. Get checked out and get your cleanings.
