beat comparisons on the two are very comparable if you ask me.. politics as usual beat is fire imo

nah. Not even close.

Politics, for example, is just too RnB for me. In terms of sound. It doesn't have the hip hop propulsion in the drums. Unlike "Halftime".

In fact, the most RnB sounding joint on Illmatic is "Life's A bytch", and that's a more rugged beat than Politics.

The funny thing about your post is that Politics as Usual is one of my least favorite tracks on RD. I never bump that song. Clark Kent in general had the weakest beats on that entire album.

For one, the beats on Illmatic are better. I also think Nas had the better flow. Lyrically, more diverse than just hustling.

Glad you made this post actually, because that was one of the better strings of songs in RD(starts to ehhhh at "Ain't No nikka". Only reason that song made the album is because Fox was more popular at the time and he needed it for the sales). I skip songs on RD, never on illmatic. illmatic reminds me of some of the dopest shorter albums of all time. Under 40 minutes, no filler, no skits, just dope beats rhymes and life...RD is dope as hell but there are way too many albums better.

too rnb? you aint listening to the lyrics.. not one song on illmatic is nas spitting like this. not one song. he's a good rhymer but jay is obviously way more intelligent which makes for better lyricism

Illmatic is illmatic. Its the best hip hop album ever created. Flawless start to finish.

Reasonable doubt was just another album in a sea of good/great albums when it came out.

The revisionist history when it comes to jay z is amazing to behold.

No it's not

It's groundbreaking though

Reasonable Doubt is heavily influenced by Illmatic

There's more to Reasonable Doubt musically but it's not as good of an album as Illmatic which benefits from factors of conciseness and cohesiveness

They are different types of writers dawg c'mon now. :childplease:

Jay was into puns, double entendres and more clever witty wordplay while Nas was a storyteller using internal rhymes and multis. Nas was more poetic and descriptive with it while Jay was more clever and smooth.

It's the same thing with rappers like Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane or even today like Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
If you from Brooklyn and you skip BKs finest:scusthov:
I'm from the Bronx... :russ:

Song was always massively overrated because it's B.I.G. and Jay it's a Brooklyn anthem but really the beat is weak and this song ain't fukking with anything on Illmatic or the true stronger cuts on Reasonable Doubt like Can I Live, Dead Presidents, Regrets.

Ski did Politics As Usual and it's one of my favorite instrumentals what exactly do you dislike about it? :ld:

Clark Kent did Brooklyn's Finest which I agree is a below average beat but he also did Cashmere Thoughts and Coming of Age which were great beats. :manny:

My bad. Ski was in great form on that album but that Politics beat :russell: It's a boring beat. It's not terrible. Just kinda average imo.

I never listen to Cashmere Thoughts and Coming of Age. some of the weakest beats on the entire album.

hip hop isn't spoken word. So I need the beat and flow to sound great first before I start giving extra props to lyrics. When it comes to beats and flow, Illmatic is better.

the rhymes on Politics are great. They're also great on Illmatic. Apples and oranges.
