hip hop isn't spoken word. So I need the beat and flow to sound great first before I start giving extra props to lyrics. When it comes to beats and flow, Illmatic is better.

the rhymes on Politics are great. They're also great on Illmatic. Apples and oranges.

the beat is great though. you're the only one in this thread who thinks otherwise. i also think jay had better flow AND better lyrics, fukk all that apples and oranges bullshyt that's what nikkas say when they don't wanna admit their favorite rapper just isn't as good as the gawd mc

Reasonably Doubt is in my top five albums and without a doubt I prefer it (listened to it last night while riding my bike home after rock climbing at the gym :ahh:) but I wouldn't say its necessarily better:manny: but I also wouldn't say that about Illmatic :yeshrug:

Why the fukk are you derailing the thread dikkhead? :snoop:

one post is derailing? Now you :sadbron:. I told y'all 6 stans I'm on ya head :demonic:. Bring up Drake in a real rap discussion and I'mma get at you, end of story :ahh:

gotta love the jigga revisionist history. reasonable doubt sounds the way it sounds because of illmatic. Why you jigga revisionist never bring up him rapping like das efx before illmatic changed the game lyrically? Illmatic made a bunch of rappers go back to the drawing board.

Illmatic is better than RD, no debate. I think some folks enjoy RD more just because of the style. Hov was on that real fly, hustler, get money shyt on that album. Real aspirational music, like go out and be a businessman or u aint shyt. RD makes a nikka wanna hustle straight up:youngsabo:

The best beat on RD is D'Evils. and not surprisingly is the best track on the entire album. (Though I'll let you slide with "Can I Live" or "Dead Presidents")

top 3 beats: D'Evils, Can't Knock The Hustle & Dead Presidents
4th man: Can I Live

Because, in the words of @Kitsch , Drake keeps him up at night.

And this thread is representative of the hip hop community at large?

Besides, as you can see by my rep, I clearly don't give a fukk if my opinions go against the grain. I'm always interested in what others think. But I take what they say, and I how I feel, and make up my own mind.

I'm happy you think Jay-Z had better flow and lyrics. I prefer the flow and rhymes on Illmatic by quite a bit. But like I said, apples and oranges. Reasonable Doubt is better at that sharp hustler mentality. Illmatic is better at... well, everything else :russ:

gotta love the jigga revisionist history. reasonable doubt sounds the way it sounds because of illmatic. Why you jigga revisionist never bring up him rapping like das efx before illmatic changed the game lyrically? Illmatic made a bunch of rappers go back to the drawing board.

I know nikkas that stop rhyming because of Illmatic :dead:

Straight up heard the album in 93/94 and said, "fukk this". Put the mic down.

I need answers..

Politics As Usual just came up in my shuffle and my god :banderas:

Illmatic is one of my fav's but Nas just wasn't on that fly shyt.. I'm a fly nikka so I relate more to Hov I guess :yeshrug:

Ski has to be one of the most underrated producers from that era , son doesn't receive enough props , all the instrumentals he produced on RD just exudes elegance and fly shyt :banderas: His production on Camp Lo's album is just flawless , I'm gonna have to make a thread about him later of GP :wow:
