Ski has to be one of the most underrated producers from that era , son doesn't receive enough props , all the instrumentals he produced on RD just exudes elegance and fly shyt :banderas: His production on Camp Lo's album is just flawless , I'm gonna have to make a thread about him later of GP :wow:

Judging albums by timeframe is better. Some people got a brain so creative they come in and just fukk up the game. RZA dropped Enter the wu in 93 and had LL Cool J sayin offbeat shyt like "flavor like praline:shaq:" and Pete Rock making "I get physical" on The Main Ingredient. Title track on the main ingredient sounds like an homage to Midnight on Midnight Marauders cause tip saw pete rock as friendly competition and they had a little back and forth. Same as "In the House" on the same album. Illmatic was a product of those same times and sonically it sounds like it. Within the next couple years the game had shifted sonically and you can tell by It Was Written, Reasonable doubt, Uptown Saturday Night. Even tribe shifting their vibe with Beats, Rhymes and Life, and De La with Stakes is High. OB4CL arguably jumped off that shift. If you said Enter the Wu was the best album of the 90's i wouldn't argue with you.

I think illmatic is a closer representation of hiphop than RD, sound wise. And content wise it's more accessible. Jay's main subject matter is himself. which gets old after awhile(and explains the state of his career at this point)...

The World, but from BK
Two different albums from different times in hiphop. RD is more polished than Illmatic....but IIlmatic was great at just details describing the experience in NYC hoods back then. Everything from the album photos to what Nas was talking about was the hood experience in NYC back then was just cohesive. NY State of Mind just sets it off perfectly. Growing up in NYC in the 80's and 90's Illmatic just gives me that nostalgic feeling. Sometime that feeling is more joyful than a song with great production and beats.

Only reason I still own ILLMATIC is if I have trouble sleeping I put that thang on and I snooze after the first song. Nas fans are all cacs.

Illmatic is boring garbage. Nas sucks.

They've gotten closer for me over the years

Memory Lane still tips the scale for me though

I can't think of a stronger 8 song start to an album than Reasonable Doubt though

Why is Ryu better than Ken. Why does Goku seems to be slightly stronger than Vegeta? The same reason why illmatic is better than reasonable doubt it just is...

not quite i agree that illmaitc is better but there is reasons for this

when jay-z came out he wasn't the second coming of anything matter of fact he looked as a carbon copy a dime of dozen and no diffeent from your typical drug king pin mafiaso type rapper from new york in 1996 so that is the reason why he got overlooked,

nas on the other hand stood out from everything in rap at the time he was lyrical his content was profound different flow he was a breath of fresh air compared to what was selling alot of records at the time dr,dre snoop etc. so his impact was huge that alone makes illmatic better then rd imo

and lyrically nas was and always will be a better mc then jay-z imo.

Yo it's as simple as what's u said. If thr weren't a nas, jay z would be garbage. Nas made jay z a better rapper imo. AND IM A JAY STAN ON THE LOW.... And you can comepare to goku and Ryu having simlar effects on thr rivals not related but I'm high right now....
