He's headlining the Roots Picnic this year. At least Questlove can always somehow triangulate him.

Yep, I’ll be there. Saw him perform at a smallish venue 10 years ago. He did 3 encores :banderas:

I thought the death of his child's mother would have motivated him to make more music.
Uhh, that ain't how it works breh :heh:

I get why you'd think that though. Lots of artists have used heavy tragedies to fuel their music. But D'Angelo is the opposite when it comes to that

One of the contributing reasons he took a long hiatus was cause of suffering some losses. Some pain just too harsh to want to jump right into some music :francis:

Solid? :childplease: I have Voodoo with Miseducation as best albums of all time.

And Black messiah probably clears brown sugar too

Yeah, solid. That’s not a bad thing at all

And once you dig deeper into music, you’ll probably find the albums that influenced his albums even more intriguing and amazing than his albums

That’s all a matter of opinion but Brown Sugar stands the tallest of his album to me

It's frustrating as hell being a fan of this guy:why:

I know not everyone can be super prolific, and quality matters more than quantity, but we're not even getting an album every 10 years.

After Black Messiah, he dropped a joint for the Red Dead soundtrack, then he went ghost again.

What's he actually doing everyday?
Sounds like he'd been fighting pancreatic cancer and was keeping it private :mjcry: RIP

I imagine he had a lot of unreleased music. Definitely the type of artist who put making music over fame/having a career. Hopefully we'll see some of it released in the future.

I would bet money on there being a new D'Angelo album sometime next year. Depends on how much of it is already finished.

Disingenuous to come in here fingerwagging like OP knew. Nobody knew. Fans been wanting consistent output from D forever
And breh was dealing with shyt his whole career. Losing loved ones, drug addiction, writers block, depression. But nikkas was really feeling entitled to new music at their whim :gucci:

Ironically, I was just thinking the other day, I don't need another album from D. He really has more than solidified himself as an artist with the three albums he released in his lifetime

Breh influence on my life as a musician and fan a music will always mean hes a GOAT to me. But he was a human being first. I never understood how some fans can treat these folks like they just some kinda slot machine. Man spent his last days with his family. That's time nobody can get back, so I'm glad they at least can hold on to that memory. Cause we lost D'Angelo, but they lost Michael Eugune Archer :mjcry:
