People like J Dilla's production. They enjoy it. It sounds good to them. Myself included. Hope that helps.

I understand that and like I stated I enjoy some of his work too I'm just not in awe with it like everyone else seems to be. If I was a casual listener I would just dismiss it and say "that shyt is wack, fukk it!", but I love Hip Hop and have seen people who's taste in music I truly respect damn near jizz over his beats, so I'm trying to see if there is something that I'm missing. Like, is it an acquired taste or something? I'm not trying to force myself to like it; just trying to get a better understanding of what's the fascination with it.

breh, i made this same thread on :hamster: like 3 years ago cause of the mass influx of people who started dikkriding the shyt out of him after he died...and made the entire J Dilla fanbase look corny as fukk.

dude was a great producer, but you had fakkit ass hipsters who acted like the nikka was god AFTER he was already did, and the shyt just became so trendy among the " i don't listen to mainstream hip hop, so i'm better than you" types it caused this obsession with his shyt... you had nikkas who weren't even alive when any of that Pharcyde shyt came out, talking bout how " J Dilla saved their life" when they only found out who he was after he was already dead.

and then on add to that, Charles Hamilton pulled some weirdo shyt talking about " J Dilla produced his album"...then after Ma Yancey got in his ass, he backpedaled off that shyt....with the quickness.

:laff: :laff: :laff: :laff: THIS! :laff: :laff: :laff: :laff:

I'm no producer so i couldn't tell you the technical aspect, but Dilla is my favorite all time producer. From his slum village stuff to his electronic bass heavy bouncy beats, to his experimental stuff..dude is crazy across the boards..all the remixs he's done..

Fck you so riled up about? You just said yourself that he's a great producer --- so what exactly is it that you find so offensive? That people like someone whom you, yourself, deem a great producer?

Lets use common sense, b. Dilla died in his prime --- there is a sense of sadness and an overall sentiment that he was taken too soon. We missed out on a cool cat, and more great music. Thats just human nature to feel a certain way about someone who died prematurely. The nicca made a great album on his death bed --- dont you think there are better targets for you to get outraged about than Dilla fans? How about fans of cats who make shtty music?

Fck does Charles Hamilton lying about Dilla producing his album have to do with anything, but Charles' own mental illness?

This shyt again?

I'm not that seasoned when it comes to all this forum shyt like most of you. If you've noticed I still have under 100 posts, so I haven't been on here for long and wasn't aware of others posting similar threads. I just asked because upon my entering this forum I noticed the online phenomena that Dilla is and would like to get a better understanding of it.

You got a lot of fans of the "art" (there's probably a better term to use) who just love the way dude chopped his samples and did his drums so differently. Son was unique, esp. in the time he emerged in coming up with who he did. Lot of work on "classic" albums in the UG community, and just respected and worked w/ a lot of artists with kinda cult followings themselves. Son even dabbled in neo-soul. Not to mention dude died with a LONG career ahead of him.
I'm gonna guess it'd be like if Madlib died today. A loud cult following calling a great, creative yet not really "big" producer GOAT. Lotta nikkas just wouldn't get it.
The "J. Dilla Saved My Life" shyt is mad overboard though :whoa: :heh:

Well, I wasn't the one who brought up Charles lying about Dilla producing his album and honestly I wasn't even aware of that since I don't really follow him. However I do believe that is a example of how obsessive Dilla fans are which is what led to me posing this question.

Thank you sir! THIS reply provides the type of insight I was looking for! I can respect that and now when I listen to another Dilla track I'll try to pay more attention to the sample chops specifically to see if it makes for a better experience.

you're obviously new to this here.... so let me speed you up on the last 6 + years of my on here and :hamster:

1. I'm a shock poster, if you haven't noticed i make a lot of sensationalized threads, that usually do big numbers...i've been doing it for years...i'm quite good at it.

2. I made the thread, like 3 years ago... just to rile up J Dilla stans...who clearly knew that this shyt was happening, and admitted to it.... the previous post is the actual truth behind the strange obsession with him. there was a considerable fanbase behind Dilla, but it's the whole anti-mainstream hipsters who really made that shyt stereotypical of a "backpacker" and brought a negative light to even liking J Dilla.

3. since you're so emotionally vested in this topic.. my threads would've struck a nerve with you..and gave me another plat thread ( the entire point of people like me posting to begin with)

4. the number before 5.
