The thing I do appreciate about Islam is the interpreting of Allah’s grace through science. Belief systems and science can co-exist.

Islam like Christianity can be used for good or bad intentions. The way they are introduced is critical. When any society allow any elitism, even through religion, naturally there will be conflict.

However I can understand op’s confusion on why certain groups in Africa adopted a foreign religion looking at the present day situation. What we see now may not be what is was back then though.

I read that 80 something percent of Africans are either Muslim or Christian and that statistic is probably similar to blacks around the globe. That truly is depressing

The Muslims were some of the first outsiders to trade with black Africa. They spread their religion through commerce and cultural exchange, unlike the Europeans. The Muslims also helped create Timbuktu and the Mali empire, Kilwa, etc.

The moors everyone loves to bring up who ruled Europe for 700 years were Muslim. In the 1500s Somalia ran the entire Indian Ocean and ruled Maldives and as far south as Mozambique. Almost all the glory of Africa in past 1200 years was under Islam.
