The Muslims were some of the first outsiders to trade with black Africa. They spread their religion through commerce and cultural exchange, unlike the Europeans. The Muslims also helped create Timbuktu and the Mali empire, Kilwa, etc.

I can't stand Islam (or Xtianity) but there's no doubt that Islam came to Sub-Saharan Africa peacefully (For North Africa, it was spread by the sword, fire etc).
