most of it has already been said, but it's a combination of things

- algorithms, keeps listeners in a box, keeps top artists on top
- lack of music and arts being taught in schools
- obsession over sales = group and narrow minded thinking... if something doesn't sell, then it must be bad
- listeners with ADD, can't follow complex lyrics, can't listen to entire albums, or songs over 3 minutes, or slow paced songs
- obsession with image instead of actual music, enhanced by social media
- obsession with gossip instead of actual music, enhanced by podcasts/sm
- too much music and other "content" to allow anything to really stand out - I'm sure there's great stuff out there, but it'll take a lot of digging
- the wave of anti-intellectualism, anything with lyrical substance is yawned at
- labels/ corporations using formulas to decide who to invest their time and money in, usually image based
- nobody is getting paid like before in the streaming era, less incentive

and I'm sure there's other factors that I forgot or didn't think of

When I say labels are trying and failing I’m referring to stuff like this

There is nothing innovative in rap fusion with house or other electronic music as it has been done since the 80s/90s

Folks need to pick up the pen and write some good stuff. I can type in something like DJ Assault if I wanna hear bunch of house music with low quality rapping.

I’ve got a few theories on the decline of American Music:

Kids aren’t learning music in schools like they used to due to cutting out arts programs and slashing budgets.

• Kids don’t grow up learning music in church anymore, due to the declining church influence in our community.

Regional sounds don’t evolve organically on their own due to increased globalization thanks to the internet.

Ownership. White folks monopolized the rights to our music and hijacked our sound.

We don’t have enough black artists in a position of ownership to control our image as a collective.
We don’t really have a Berry Gordy or Sam Cooke right now.

The industry is shady, and these execs are scared of real music. They don’t want another Michael Jackson or Prince to rise up, buy up their publishing and expose their mistreatment of black artists.

The labels would rather sign disposable artists with with zero talent
and be able to control their image, write their lyrics, produce their beats, etc. This way, they’re holding all the cards. If the artist steps out of line or if the label just gets tired of them, they’re gone.

Black folks, we gotta value our OG’s more. White folks are still bumping AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Queen, the Grateful Dead, the Beatles, etc and rocking their merch.

How many young black folks today are still putting respect on the names of James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind & Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament/Funkadelic and the Isley Brothers?

Everybody wants to be NLE Choppa, King Von, and Megan Thee Stallion, but none of our kids want to be Stevie Wonder or Whitney Houston.

People don't care as much about music anymore as there are other ways to seek clout more than ever.

I'm going to argue we've basically heard everything to hear: from low frequency to high-frequency sound ranges today's modern VST's are so advanced and have been put to crazy usage.

Then as soon as somebody does something somewhat different, 10,000 other producers/artists to to jack the sound anyways.

I really don't think it's simply a question of talent. It's a question of how much content.
By the end of this week, I think it's something like 300,000 new songs have hit the streaming services.

Edit:
Something like 49,000 new songs per day. Let's say they're all 2 minutes.

After a week that's ~478 days of non-stop music you'd have to play to listen to all those songs that came out this week. Average person doesn't have enough lifespan for the amount of music released through half of this year.

Now with A.I that number going to be even crazier.

The most talented musicians i meet are jaded to the industry. They make music for their own mental health, not to be famous. The ones who are tryna be famous arent even close to as talented. The game is filled with “drug dealers” (and i use quotes for a reason) who want out and use their funds to spread their bullshyt while real talented artists cant get noticed. Now if one of those talented producers sends a beat to a poppin ug rapper, the rapper will only use the beat if the producer has a fan base to steal from. If you have no base, you can be the best beat maker or rapper ever, they will not fukk with you. I shouldnt have to tell you why that hurts these introverted artists.

You have to sound like everyone else for people to accept you today. Combine that with everyone thinking they can be a rapper and you have a problem. Bunch of know it alls who dont know anything really. All copying each others formulas. If you show uo with an unknown formula “its wack” until someone big also cracks that formula. Show them the same track 5 years later after the industry caught on. Now its dope. Foh. Lotta faking the funk out there.

And then theres the issue of if everyones a musician. Why do i need your music when i can make my own soundtracks now. Its easier than ever.

And now with AI? Sheeeeeit. Its over hova.

Even right now on this forum, their are prolly 10 worthy artists who could blow but will have no chance. Lotta rappers and producers came from sohh/the coli like jay elect, bronze nazareth, etc.

But we eat our own on here.

These are what a lot of your music producers look like today as well:

Complete with cosigns from producers we used to respect.

shyt crazy got white folks making the beats all the way to approving the projects :wow:

With this AI shyt they can generate a “breh” to say nikka all they want :wow:

music on the radio =/= music as a whole. If you like music, then u spend your money what you like and seek it out.
