Is there any artist willing to dismiss Shabba as a mere pop act? I think not
Shabba career derailed after adamantly refusing to kow tow to pressure during the original 'boom bye bye' fiasco. Keep in mind all the next generation were quick to back down when the pressure came (they may have ranted while back in the Islands but when they got on that plane they kept that shyt to themselves for that touring check) Shabba went on an international tv show stuck to his guns and that was the end of his career.

Sean Paul, yes the 1st album was a classic but once he got the taste of that crossover appeal that uptown youth went full international act
Beenie Moses, legendary JA dj but never had the impact that Shabba did.
Shabba did not actually do it better than the aforementioned, he did it better than all others. His break into the wider world was never calculated and he generally stayed true to himself dropping slackness chunes like they were running out of style and every once in a while would drop the requisite homophobic chune. (I dont recall Beenie actually having one). The truth is every other artist after Shabba modelled their career after his. He was the benchmark of dancehall superstardom.
